Handyman Avondale Heights — split-levels, decks and hillside jobs

Avondale Heights sits on the ridge above the Maribyrnong River, and the topography drives the housing. A lot of the stock is split-level 1970s and 80s brick homes with retaining walls, timber steps and decks sitting a full storey off the ground to make the most of the view. There's also a scatter of newer builds toward Military Road and the Canning Reserve edge. The elevated deck and retaining wall combination means outdoor timber and structural sleepers dominate our diary here — big sun exposure and hillside movement takes a toll that a flatter suburb doesn't see.
